TECHTEXTIL STUDENT COMPETITION 2017 - register by 27.02.2017
In 2017, Techtextil – International Trade Fair for Technical Textiles and Nonwovens is organizing the 14th 'Textile Structures for New Building' contest. As in the years before the international association TensiNet is supporting the contest as a sponsor with prize money amounting to € 8,000. Furthermore the contest will be medially accompanied and supported by our media partner Architonic.
Prof. Dr. Dr. E.h. Dr. h.c. Werner Sobek, director of the Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design (ILEK), University of Stuttgart, will be responsible for the professional and technical supervision of the competition.
We cordially invite all students and young professionals (born after 1 March 1988) of architecture and civil engineering, product design, or any other relevant subjects, to apply.
This competition is designed to identify innovative thinking and innovative solutions to problems, featuring construction projects capable of concrete realisation which use textiles or textilereinforced materials. A further aim is to encourage students and new entrants to the professions. The competition is further intended to strengthen contacts between the younger generation, the universities, the technical-textiles industry and broad sections of the building industry.

master program Membrane Structures 12.-25.03.2017
March 12th 2017 the 12th international master course in membrane and lightweight structures starts with the two attendance weeks of the first semester in Dessau-Rosslau, Germany. This postgraduate and longdistance study program is organized by the Institute for Membrane and Shell Technologies, Building and Real Estate (IMS e.V.), an institute at the Anhalt University of Applied Scineces in Dessau, home of the famous Bauhaus.
This worldwide unique Master Program (M.Eng) is addressed to graduate’s in the fields of architecture and engineering. Interested people without academic study background can participate in the program too and finish the course with the professional title Archineer® Membrane Structures. For professionals with lack of time for studying a compact and intensive course providing fundamental know-how in designing and engineering of membrane constructions is offered as a University Certificate program (Cert.Archineer®) .
Studying in the atmosphere of the famous “Bauhaus” during the attendance weeks participants also take advantage of becoming a part of a great worldwide network of specialists in membrane and net constructions and textile building. Professional experts from all over the world are giving lectures and sharing their knowledge and experiences with the students.

6th International Textile Architecture Seminar – IMS
Topic
The current world of Textile Architecture. The planning, design, and increasingly frequent inclusion of high‐tech membrane structures within the modern architecture. Likewise, the rising importance and popularity of this global industry.

EXHIBITION - Frei Otto. Thinking by Modeling
The exhibition aims at introducing new perspectives on the work of Frei Otto as well as formulating present-day questions concerning the future of our built environment involving architecture, technology, sustainability and society.
Frei Otto (1925-2015) is among the most internationally celebrated and innovative German architects of the 20th century and is a central figure in building the culture in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. In March of last year, he received the Nobel Prize for Architecture, the Pritzker Prize, for his work, which is the most highly recognized award for architecture in the world. On the occasion of this honour, the »Südwestdeutsches Archiv für Architektur und Ingenieurbau« (saai) and the Wüstenrot Foundation are planning the biggest exhibition to date of the work of Frei Otto in cooperation with the ZKM.

Exhibition & Event - lightweight at ELEMENTE materialForum
Exhibition & Evening Event (in German) on Leichtbau: Materialien im Verbund | textile Architektur.
ELEMENTE hosts presentation series related to current developments of various material topics. At the evening events, 3-4 speakers from universities and institutions, production areas, or architecture and design talk in detail about new materials, developments, and projects. In the form of an exhibition, selected material producers, developers, architects, and designers present their newest materials, products and projects. We show material samples of different sizes in the form of a tactile experience and put them into connections with various application scenarios.

SaP-Report ‘Prospect for European guidance for the Structural Design of Tensile Membrane Structures'
CEN TC250 in its meeting of the 20th of November decided that the Science and Policy Report (SaP-Report) ‘Prospect for European guidance for the Structural Design of Tensile Membrane Structures’ will be published by JRC (Joint Research Centre).
This version will be made available to the European Standardisation Bodies for evaluation as ‘basis’ for the Technical Specifications. Comments can be given during 6 months. After this period of 6 months CEN TC250 will decide if - taking the comments into account - the elaboration of the Technical Specifications can start or not (decision expected by November 2016).

TEXTILE ROOFS 2017
Textile Roofs 2017 is scientifically organised by Ms. Prof. Rosemarie Wagner (KIT - Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) and is an event of AcaMem (Berlin Academy of Architectural Membrane Structures) operated by academus GmbH as promoter for educational events in the field of Membrane Architecture.
Workshops on the Design and Practical Realisation of Architectural Membrane Structures. The main objectives of this workshop are to provide fundamental information, as well as presenting the state-of-the-art in textile roof engineering. Above all, the workshop aims to provide practical answers to real-world questions. In addition to a comprehensive programme of lectures presented in English by key figures from the membrane structure industry and academia, opportunity for the study and hands-on development of practical case-studies in an informal tutorial environment will be provided.
