TECHTEXTIL STUDENT COMPETITION 2017 - results
This year the 14th edition of the student competition “Textile Structures for New Building” took place. The competition received many entries. Most contributions were inspiring, looking at functionalities from a fresh perspective, re-interpreting, showing creativity, changing the scale, integrating light, sound, new ideas for processes or methodologies, or showing refined poetic finishing. It was a pleasure to go through the well documented projects, varying from aesthetic inflated halls or improved living spaces for refugee camps to adaptable lightweight skins or panels integrating bending active elements, creating soft furniture systems, knitting or weaving wet concrete, wrapping wet threads or steering a self-active façade system made of a flexible basalt tissue.
When evaluating the entries, the jury mainly took into account the following criteria: feasibility, qualitative use of textile materials, level of innovation, aesthetics, ecological quality, resource efficiency, functionality and economic quality.

Aachen-Dresden-Denkendorf International Textile Conference 2017
Aachen, Dresden and Denkendorf, together, are forming the 'textile triangle' of the future
Boasting over 600 participants most recently, this conference counts as one of the most important textile conferences in Europe. Starting in 2016, the German Institutes of Textile and Fiber Research, Denkendorf (DITF) are now also a co-organizer. Thus, the Aachen-Dresden-Denkendorf International Textile Conference will take place on a yearly alternating basis at one of the three sites. Parallel to the International Textile Conference, the organizers respectively launch the German Textile Colloquium as a national equivalent with changing special themes in the spring.

12th International Conference on Building Envelopes of the Future
The aim of the Conference on Advanced Building Skins is to contribute to a multidisciplinary, integrated planning approach by architects, engineers, scientists, manufacturers and the building industry to reduce energy consumption of buildings. The annual international conference attracts 600 participants from over fifty countries. The Conference will be held at the Congress Center Kursaal in Bern, Switzerland, 2-3 October 2017.
The conference will be held in English and German languages.

pre-symposium activities IASS - Workshops & Master classes
The IASS 2017 committee invites professionals, PhD-candidates and students to participate at Pre-Workshops and Master Classes taking place between September 20th-24th, 2017, at HCU Hamburg (three to five days before the IASS conference).
Workshops and Master Classes will explore the role, design and critical reflection of computational design methods, design tool environments and fabrication techniques with special focus on simulation of complex geometries and structural systems. Master Classes (MC) address specialists and aim at the exchange of knowledge on an advanced level. In Workshops (WS) experience will be gained together and exchanged.
Both formats – MC and WS – explore specific structural types, the interlinking of material systems, as well as fabrication methods. The means are hands-on knowledge and tool-sharing. The approach can be based on software or hardware, creating digital and | or physical design studies and | or prototypes.
The results will be presented as part of a warm-up event on Sunday evening prior to the conference. We anticipate the Workshops will include 10 to 20 participants from industry, research as well as architectural and engineering study programs. Master Classes should include 8 to 15 participants from academia and industry.

Architectural Membrane Association (AMA)
The Architectural Membrane Association (AMA), founded on 15th of March 2016 in Dessau, is a neutral platform of the membrane construction industry following the common aim to broaden the market of Architectural Membrane Constructions by spreading information, strengthening and securing quality and thus increasing the confidence in the construction method. AMA safeguards and promotes the technical, economic and social interests of its international members in the field of building with membranes in the architectural context.
The common interest of the members of AMA lies in the promotion of construction with membranes, as well as the representation of interests of the members vis-à-vis authorities, associations and other organizations. The common interests specifically include the quality improvement and assurance, in order to create trust vis-à-vis third parties and the structuring and implementation of public relations work, provision of supporting advertising media and other appropriate measures for this (image, information, doctrines, training).
The association promotes fair competition and combats any type of unfair competition, as well as other deficiencies and detrimental aberrations in business practice. It neither has the character of a commercial enterprise nor can it control the business activity of its members. The association does not pursue any political or religious goals.
Companies decisively involved in the realization process of architectural membranes (companies, producing membrane materials, manufacturing membranes or decisively realizing membrane structures for architectural applications) are cordially invited to join AMA.
