TENSINET SYMPOSIUM 2019 – CALL FOR EXHIBITING / POSTERS & PROTOTYPES

CALL FOR EXHIBITION / POSTERSNew deadline 3th December 2018

In line with the general theme of the TensiNet 2019 Symposium, “Softening the Habitats: Sustainable Innovation in Minimal Mass Structures and Lightweight Architectures”, the exhibition will focus on the change tensile architecture is undergoing.

The INTENSION exhibition aims at presenting cutting-edge projects, techniques and materials that have recently been implemented in the field of tensile architecture and have the potential of changing the construction and the lifespan of membrane structures for a more sustainable built environment.

Participate in the INTENSION exhibition to share your achievement and provide more visibility for your project, as well as pave the way for a widespread use of innovative technologies within the field of architecture, design and engineering, and especially tensile construction.

We invite firms, companies and academics to submit a 300-word text, a render/photo of the project and a significant detail drawing organised in an A2 poster until the 31st of October. The chosen projects will be exhibited at Politecnico di Milano within a tensile installation in the exhibition hall Guido Nardi from the 3rd to the 15th of June 2019, providing prolonged exposure and visibility to the projects on display.

CALL FOR EXHIBITION / PROTOTYPESDeadline 31th January 2019

In addition to the Call for Posters, we are also launching a Call for Prototypes within the context of the INTENSION exhibition. The prototypes aim at showcasing experimental tensile projects having a relatively medium or small scale. They can either be scaled models of from 1:10 to 1:2, or 1:1 mock-ups, but the latter is preferred, even if it is a partial model of the real structure. These prototypes will be distributed in the green open-air areas of Politecnico di Milano according to their size. The prototypes will be installed and dismantled by their authors within two days prior and after the conference, and will be on display for the whole duration of the conference, from the 3rd to the 5th of June 2019. Thus, authors are kindly reminded to consider the transport and handling time on site of the prototype components beforehand.

The call for prototypes will require you to submit by email, until the 31st of January, a poster in A2 format of maximum 15 MBs, containing at least the following elements: one 3D view of your prototype, one plan view with clear principal dimensions specified in meters and a short text of 300 words on why your prototype complies with the theme of the INTENSION exhibition. You can optionally also send sketches/final drawings of sections, elevations or assembly drawings, with the latter being highly recommended.

SelgasCano Pavilion at Liquid City, Bruges Triennale.14 May – 16 Sept. 2018

How flexible, liquid, and resilient can a historic city like Bruges be in an age when nothing seems to be certain any longer?

'Isoropia' at the16th International Architecture Exhibition, la Biennale di Venezia (26 May - 25 Nov. 2018)

Interesting installations at the Danish Pavilion - Theme: Possible Spaces - Sustainable development through collaborative innovations

The installation 'Isoropia' - Greek: meaning balance, equilibrium and stability - is more than 35m long and made of more than 40 custom CNC knitted membranes of up to 7m length. These are set in structural equilibrium with bend glassfibre rods of varying strength. The structure creates a spatial and structural continuum through the Danish Pavilion, forming differentiated outdoor canopy structures on the two outer sides and a vaulted space in the interior. Similar to the spatial expression the structural system morphs from a cablenet system, which prestresses and stabilises the structure to one, which uses tensegrity like compression elements to prestress the knitted membrane.

Form and Force 2019 - Joint International conference IASS Symposium 2019 & Structural Membranes 2019

FORM and FORCE 2019 incorporates the IASS 60th Anniversary Symposium (IASS SYMPOSIUM 2019) and the 9th Int. Conference on Textile Composites and Inflatable Structures (STRUCTURAL MEMBRANES 2019)

Theme and Topics: The theme of the 2019 Symposium will be Form and force. In this symposium we aim to connect academia, companies by organizing an exposition during the symposium. Academics and companies are invited to design, build and expose innovative structures. The challenge that the organizers set is to present step-changing new concepts that will lead to a better, innovative world and a better build environment. Special attention will be given to design, engineering, construction, operation and maintenance of shell and spatial structures as well as the potential impact that digital technology and BIM can have and has on the built environment and how we can improve our built environment with this technology.

Previous Conferences: The IASS symposia has rotated around the world since the 1960s. Previous conference venues have been Brazil (2013), Seoul (2012), London (2011), Shanghai (2010), Hamburg2017 and Boston (2018). The structural membranes symposia were located in Barcelona, Stuttgart and Munich.

Visitors Profile: Visitors come from all over the world from a variety of sectors: Art, Architecture, Engineering (Civil and Structural) and Construction. We have attendees from companies, government and academia. Our regular conference visitors include executive level management from large architecture, engineering and construction firms involved in key projects all over the world: stadia, tall and large buildings, bridges, infrastructure and other large projects. We pay special attention to a maximum synergy between companies and academics with a special focus to developers, building installations advisors and contractors, building owners, etc.

Exposition and Design Contest: Before and during the symposium an exposition will be on display which will include the best entries of an international design contest. This exposition will feature objects from the domain of membrane, shell and spatial structures. The contest is open for everybody. This contest is organized by WG21 in close cooperation with the symposium organizers. More information can be found on the website of WG21: http://www.manufacturingmaterials.org

Competition and exhibition of innovative lightweight structures

Competition and exhibition of innovative lightweight structures: An invitation for artists, designers, engineers, and researchers

Organized by the new IASS Working Group 21 “Advanced manufacturing and materials” in close cooperation with the IASS Symposium 2019 and the Structural Membranes 2019 Conference, Barcelona.

Internationally recognized and celebrated artists, designers, engineers, and researchers in cooperation with top universities from all over the world are invited to participate in a contest and exhibition of innovative lightweight structures. The structures must display a strong vision of structural design and innovation. They should demonstrably be the result of structural engineering focused research projects. It is our ambition to have an exhibition that shows new insights on structural typologies, through the design of a pavilion. The pavilions will be exhibited in the summer of 2019 and during the joint IASS - Structural Membranes Form and Force 2019 symposium in Barcelona. During the conference the jury of the contest, chaired by the president of the IASS, will award a prize to the most innovative realized structure.

TENSILE intense

One week overview in membrane and lightweight structures.

It is observed that there is a great demand for membrane and lightweight structures in its different forms since it can be used for covering huge open spaces with minimal intervention and minimal construction time. Especially in tropical and sun-drenched countries the market is growing rapidly. The technologies of textile building have been advanced and developed enough to be used as important building material in construction all over the world. But only a few experienced people and companies are able to finally implement these challenging projects.

The Tensile intense program is created to provide a concentrated overview and universal understanding for the entire process of textile building, starting with the design, following the steps of analysis, detailing, dimensioning, calculating and ending with the erection of a membrane and lightweight structure.

The certificate is an introductory part of the international certificate study program as well as the master program in Membrane Structures to which it can be extended at the Anhalt University.
