The TensiNet Working Group “Website and Database”

Proposed modifications to the website:
• Implementation of a Content Management System (CMS)
• An improved event calendar
• Integration of the TensiNet database: newly added/modified projects will be displayed on the website
• The user will be able to subscribe to a number of different RSS-feeds on the website
• Better management of the users of the system
• Enable partners and/or members to upload their own interesting files to the library
• The website will be more secure, avoiding annoying pop-up windows
• …

Proposed modifications to the database:
• A more user-friendly user interface that is oriented towards more user participation
• All the thumbnails will be reviewed
• Pagination will be added to the list of projects
• Next to the RSS-feeds, the user will have the possibility to subscribe to a certain type of project, causing the user to receive an e-mail, whenever a new project has been added or altered
• The search interface will also be revised

In addition to a comprehensive programme of lectures presented in English by key figures from the membrane structure industry and academia, opportunity for the study and hands-on development of practical case-studies in an informal tutorial environment will be provided.

During the afternoons the hands-on workshops will be run with opportunities for both computational and physical modelling. In parallel to this practical activity, specialised lectures will be presented on state-of-the-art topics for the more advanced participants. These will include algorithmic approaches, computational algorithm theory and textile technology as well as corporate presentations from prominent lightweight structure firms.

The aim of the symposium is to increase the interest in and appreciation for membrane and lightweight structures. Architects, engineers and constructors as well as professors and students interested or involved in the design and manufacture of non-conventional structures are invited to presentations about existing lightweight constructions, ongoing projects and future applications.

At the beginning of a new millennium the world is economically and socially changing at a fast pace. Consequence is that the performance requirements for buildings are also under review. During the life cycle of buildings these requirements change, adaptation to new circumstances is therefore a must.

Adaptables 2006 wants to focus on the needs and drives for adaptation and look at the new technologies and materials that are available. Adaptables 2006 will bring together clients, designers, structural engineers and the construction industry each with their own visions and interests to exchange views and experiences in the field of adaptable buildings.
Adaptables 2006 is organized around two themes. One is the relationship between clients and the construction industry regarding adaptable buildings. The other concerns the design and engineering of adaptable buildings. Participants of the conference are free to attend sessions on both themes. By bringing together professionals and academics working with adaptable structures the organizers of the conference hope to evoke inspiring discussions and new academic insights.

On the 16th of may, SBR (the Dutch Foundation for Building Research) organises a seminar on membrane roofstructures for high performance building envelopes in the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAi) in Rotterdam. Architects, researchers and practitioners focus on design and engineering issues related to realised construction projects.

The Twelfth International Workshop on the Design and Practical Realisation of Architectural Membrane Structures.
The main objectives of this workshop are to provide fundamental information, as well as presenting the state-of-the-art in textile roof engineering. Above all, the workshop aims to provide practical answers to real-world questions. In addition to a comprehensive programme of lectures presented in English by key figures from the membrane structure industry and academia, opportunity for the study and hands-on development of practical case-studies in an informal tutorial environment will be provided.
