TensiNet Symposium 2023 at Nantes Université
TENSINANTES2023
The TensiNet Symposium 2023 "Membrane architecture: the seventh established building material. Designing reliable and sustainable structures for the urban environment" will be held at Nantes Université (France) from 7th till 9th June 2023.
TENSINANTES2023 focuses on the significance and potential of fabrics and foils as established building materials and promotes the use of tensile structures in a world of constant change and adaptation. The optimal use of materials, the realisation of a Eurocode, sustainability and reuse are some of the topics that will be covered, ranging from research over practical experiences to realisations. The diversity and complementarity within the TensiNet community: suppliers, manufacturers, installers, engineers, architects, researchers & academics, inspired and fed the idea of putting together duos of speakers who will give keynote lectures around the 3 main themes:
Structural membrane: contemporary, innovative, adaptive daring and impactful solutions In Jules Verne's hometown, with its focus on innovation and futuristic issues, membrane architecture can provide answers to current problems, especially for ever denser cities and for a world that is always on the move.
Tensioned membrane structures: the seventh building material Recent advances in the design of membrane structures, development of a Eurocode dedicated to structural membranes: the word membrane must now be part of the daily vocabulary of architects, designers and decision-makers, and the specificities of membrane design must be part of the knowledge of all structural engineers.
Structural membrane: an answer to issues of the 21st century Lightweight design, well-being, environmental impact, energy and acoustic performance, life cycle of materials and structures, end of life of membrane structures: these keywords are part of the current and future construction challenges and are an important message for the younger generations.
KEYNOTE SPEAKERS confirmed. The lectures will be listed in detail soon (title of paper and author(s)).

STRUCTURAL MEMBRANES 2023
The XI edition of the conference on Textile Composites and Inflatable Structures (STRUCTURAL MEMBRANES 2023) will be organised on 02-04 October 2023 in Valencia. The previous conferences of these series were held in Barcelona (2003, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, in conjunction with the conference commemorating the 60th anniversary of the International Association for Shell and Space Structures (IASS)), Stuttgart (2005, 2009) and Munich (2013, 2017). The last edition of the Structural Membranes conference as virtual event on September 13-14, 2021.
The objectives of Structural Membranes 2023 are to collect and disseminate state-of-the-art research and technology for design, analysis, construction and maintenance of textile and inflatable structures. The conference will address both the theoretical bases for structural analysis and the numerical algorithms necessary for efficient and robust computer implementation. A significant part of the conference will be devoted to discuss advances in new textile composites for applications in membrane and inflatable structures in the building and construction sectors, as well as in innovative design, construction and maintenance procedures.
Structural Membranes 2023 aims to be a forum for discussing recent progress and identifying future research directions in the field of textile composites and inflatable structures.

AMA Award
AMA Award
Our living space and our environment are very important to us. Against the background of climate changes and increasing environmental problems, AMA would like to make a contribution into turning building more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
This also applies to building with light structures and membrane materials (fabrics and foils). These materials and construction methods are ideally suited to make a major contribution to saving our natural resources. The extremely small dimensions of lightweight structures compared to other types of construction lead to savings in several fields of sustainable construction. These savings relate to the energies used as well as the transport quantities, recycling and ultimately also the emissions and the reduced quantities of materials that arise at the end of the long life cycle.
The competition, which AMA announced in 2021 for the first time, shall reward and honour outstanding contributions to sustainability and conservation of natural resources by awarding particularly good examples of products, projects, design and ideas in the field of lightweight and membrane structures.
The AMA Award comprises four categories, two of these categories Products and Projects are for AMA members only and the other two Design and Idea for non-members. We want to recognize and reward people and companies having achieved special success on the way to a better future of our planet or firmely intending to do so (ideas).
